Categories

AfricaNomads runs month-long coliving editions across Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Botswana, Malawi and Zambia, plus year-round bases in Addis Ababa and Nairobi. Stays start around 440 dollars a week with a two week minimum and long-stay rates from two months. Editions are hosted by local teams and built around cultural immersion rather than a fixed itinerary.

AfricaNomads: month-long editions across the continent

AfricaNomads runs remote-work colivings in African cities and coastal towns, mostly as dated month-long editions that move between destinations, plus two bases that run year round in Addis Ababa and Nairobi. It is built and hosted by people living in those places rather than by an outside tour operator.

What AfricaNomads Does

  • Dated editions across the continent. Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Botswana, Malawi and Zambia all appear on the calendar, each with published start and end dates.
  • Two year-round bases. Addis Ababa and Nairobi run continuously, so you are not limited to the edition schedule.
  • Private rooms and a working setup. The operator reports around 90 Mbps with backup routers, which is the number that decides whether a month in these cities is viable.
  • Small groups, local hosts. Each edition is capped and run by people from the region, which is the difference the operator leads with.
  • Occasional expedition formats. Some dates are not standard colivings at all, such as an eight night Kilimanjaro climb on the Machame route.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Africa is the hardest continent to nomad in independently. Visa rules, internet reliability and accommodation that assumes either a hotel or a year-long lease all work against a one-month stay, and the information you need is not on the usual sites. Buying into a run edition removes most of that.

The local hosting is the real argument. A month in Addis or Nairobi arranged from the outside tends to keep you inside the expat bubble; arranged from the inside, it does not.

Two things to check before booking. Per-edition pricing is not published, so you have to ask, and the format varies a lot between destinations, from a city base to a mountaineering trip. Read the specific edition rather than the brand.

Pricing

From around 440 dollars a week depending on the destination, with a two week minimum and lower long-stay rates from two months. Per-edition rates are quoted on request.

The most practical way into a continent that is genuinely hard to nomad alone.
