Amarilla: a Tenerife community rather than a single house

Amarilla is a remote-work community in the south of Tenerife built around several properties, a coworking space and a programme of events. It has been running long enough to accumulate nearly three hundred Google reviews, which for a coliving is a lot.

What Amarilla Does

• Multiple properties in Tenerife south. Finca Atogo and Casa Marina among them, with private and shared rooms rather than one fixed building.
• A separate coworking space. Desks are available to the wider local community, not only to people staying in the houses.
• Retreats and private group bookings. Companies and small groups can take a whole property, which is a meaningful share of what the operator does.
• Talks and community events. Regular sessions run as a way of connecting residents with the longer-term nomad population on the island.
• Consultancy for other operators. The team also advises people opening colivings elsewhere, which tells you something about how long they have been at it.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

The Canaries are the practical winter base for Europe. Same time zone as London and one hour off the mainland, EU rules, reliable internet and twenty degrees in January. Tenerife south is the driest and sunniest corner of that.

What Amarilla adds is the community layer. Renting an apartment in Costa del Silencio is cheap and easy and you will speak to nobody for a month. Here the events, the coworking and the shared houses do the introductions.

The main friction is booking. There is no published price list and no online availability; you fill in a form and wait to be contacted with what is free. That is workable if you are planning ahead and frustrating if you are not.
