Cobana: a Transylvanian mountain house for residencies

Cobana is a nine room guesthouse and coliving in Zarnesti, at the foot of the Piatra Craiului mountains in Romania. Beyond taking individual remote workers it runs residencies, workshops and team retreats, with a stated focus on regenerative work.

What Cobana Does

  • Nine private en-suite rooms. No shared bathrooms and no dorms, in a house small enough to feel like a group.
  • Around 775 euros a month. Roughly 32 euros a night, with a one week minimum.
  • Residencies and workshops. Structured programmes alongside ordinary stays, which brings a different mix of people through.
  • Team retreats. The house can be taken by a group, which is part of how it operates.
  • Piatra Craiului on the doorstep. One of Romania's most striking national parks, with limestone ridges and serious hiking.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Romania is an underrated European base. Internet speeds are among the best in the world, costs are low, and it is in the EU. Transylvania adds mountains, medieval towns like Brasov and Sibiu, and some of the last genuinely wild forest in Europe.

Zarnesti is a small town rather than a tourist centre, half an hour from Brasov, which puts you close to a real city while living at the edge of a national park. Bears are an actual consideration on the trails here, which tells you something about how wild it still is.

Two practical notes. Winters are properly cold and snowy, which is either the appeal or a problem. And nine rooms with residencies running means availability is limited, so plan ahead.

Pricing

Around 775 euros a month for a private en-suite, roughly 32 euros a night, with a one week minimum.

The Carpathians with fast internet, which is a better combination than it sounds.
