Communal Coliving: solar power and Starlink on Siargao

Communal Coliving is a solar-powered coliving in Santa Fe on Siargao, the Philippine surf island. The two things it leads with are the two things that actually decide whether Siargao is workable: power and internet, both of which fail regularly on the island.

What Communal Does

  • Hybrid solar with battery backup. Power cuts are routine on Siargao, and this house is built to ride through them.
  • Coco Space included. A separate solar-powered coworking space with generator backup, air conditioning, ergonomic desks, call rooms and Starlink, seven minutes away.
  • A full range of rooms. Dorms from around 35,000 pesos a month, private rooms, studios from about 60,000, and apartments.
  • More than 100 events a month. Surf sessions, masterminds and community dinners, which is an unusually high cadence.
  • A six night minimum. Short enough to try the island.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Siargao is one of the best surf islands in Asia and has built a genuine nomad community around Cloud 9 and General Luna. The Philippines is cheap, English is widely spoken, and the visa can be extended repeatedly, which makes long stays straightforward.

The infrastructure is why this listing stands out from a beach guesthouse. Brownouts on Siargao can last hours, and typhoon season disrupts more than the weather. Solar plus batteries plus Starlink plus a generator at the coworking space is about as resilient as the island gets.

Plan around the season. Siargao has a distinct typhoon risk from roughly August to November, and the island took serious damage in 2021, so check conditions when you book.

Pricing

Dorms from around 35,000 Philippine pesos a month, roughly 525 euros; private studios from about 60,000. Six night minimum.

The island's power problem solved, which is most of the reason to book a coliving here at all.
