Horizonte: two houses in Belo Horizonte

Horizonte runs two colivings in Belo Horizonte, Brazil's third largest metropolitan area. Casa Mangabeiras sits near the park of the same name below the Serra do Curral; Casa Santa Tereza is in the bohemian district known for its murals, live music and bar culture. Both are furnished, private-room houses aimed at people in transition.

What Horizonte Does

  • Two houses with different characters. Mangabeiras green and quiet, Santa Tereza social and central.
  • Rates that fall with commitment. From around 2,390 to 2,650 reais for one month, down to roughly 1,870 to 2,050 on six months.
  • Redundant internet. 200 to 400 Mbps over wifi, with two fibre lines and automatic failover at Mangabeiras.
  • Furnished, move-in ready rooms. Ranging from about 1,200 to 3,000 reais depending on size and stay length.
  • Community as the stated purpose. Shared meals, live music and kitchen conversations, with 5.0 ratings at both houses.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Belo Horizonte is the Brazilian city that nomads overlook, and locals will tell you that is a mistake. It has the country's best bar culture, a serious food scene, mountains on the doorstep, and the colonial towns of Minas Gerais within a couple of hours. It is also far cheaper and calmer than Rio or Sao Paulo.

The internet setup deserves credit. Two fibre lines with automatic failover is the kind of thing that only exists when the operator has actually thought about remote work.

At roughly 400 euros a month on a longer contract, this is strong value for a private room in a major city, and the sliding scale rewards staying.

Pricing

From around 2,390 reais a month at Mangabeiras and 2,650 at Santa Tereza for one month stays, falling to roughly 1,870 and 2,050 on six month contracts. Thirty night minimum.

Brazil's most underrated big city, with the connection to work from it.
