Kotori runs coworking hostels in Kotohira and Takamatsu on Shikoku, Japan, with private rooms and dorms and a coworking space open to non-guests. Long stays get 20 percent off from five nights, 35 percent from 14, and bespoke rates beyond 29 nights, with a five night minimum. Guests use the coworking space free from 9am on arrival day to 6pm on departure.

Kotori: coworking hostels on Shikoku

Kotori operates two coworking hostels on Shikoku, Japan's smallest main island: one on the approach road to the Konpira shrine in Kotohira, and one in Takamatsu. Both pair accommodation with a coworking space that is open to drop-ins as well as guests.

What Kotori Does

  • Private rooms and dorm beds. Across two properties, with a five night minimum.
  • Discounts that scale steeply. 20 percent off from five nights, 35 percent from 14, and bespoke rates for 29 nights and up.
  • Free coworking across your whole stay. From 9am on check-in day until 6pm on check-out day, which removes the travel-day dead time.
  • Drop-in coworking. Open year round to people staying elsewhere.
  • Local immersion. Activities and community connection are the operator's stated purpose.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Shikoku is the Japan that almost no foreign remote workers see. Kotohira is home to the Konpira shrine with its 785 steps, Takamatsu has one of Japan's finest gardens at Ritsurin, and the island is the setting for the 88 temple pilgrimage. Kagawa prefecture is also the udon capital of Japan.

Japan is hard to stay in for a month, and a hostel with structured long-stay discounts and included coworking is one of the cleaner solutions. The 35 percent discount from two weeks makes a longer stay meaningfully cheaper.

The site is primarily in Japanese with English, Chinese and Korean versions. Rates for 29 nights and beyond are quoted individually.

Pricing
