Matra Bali: a family-run guest house with a coworking floor

Matra Bali is in central Canggu, run as a family business spanning a guest house, a surf camp, coliving and coworking, a yoga studio and a vegan cafe. The rooms open onto a green garden and pool, with the workspace on the top floor.

What Matra Bali Does

  • Private rooms with pool and garden views. From around 7.5 million rupiah a month, with private open bathrooms.
  • A top-floor coworking space. With the rooftop views that reviewers mention most.
  • An in-house cafe. Coffee and vegan food without leaving the property.
  • Yoga on site. Under the Pranava name, alongside the surf camp.
  • Apartments for longer rentals. A separate option for people staying several months.

Why It Makes Sense for Nomads

Canggu is the densest concentration of remote workers anywhere in the world, with the cafes, gyms, coworking spaces and social scene that come with it. If you want to arrive somewhere and immediately have a network, this is the place.

A family-run guest house is a different proposition from the large purpose-built colivings that dominate the area. It is cheaper, more personal and less polished, and at around 7.5 million rupiah a month, roughly 430 euros, it undercuts most of them.

Two honest points. The 4.3 rating across 122 reviews is decent rather than outstanding, and parts of the site are clearly dated, including a pandemic-era discount notice. Canggu itself is also busy and traffic-heavy in a way that surprises first-time visitors.
